HMV issues plastic gift cards for purchase and spending in-store. They cannot be used online. They last 24 months from last use including balance enquiry*. There is no online balance checker but you can go in-store or call 0333 323 4754 (options 1, 1) for an automated service. You don't need the PIN when you call which is good. You never need to scratch off the PIN.
HMV staged a remarkable recovery from administration in 2013 to become lean, profitable and a great place to shop.
